Q: What are rare & retired sets?
A: Retired sets have been discontinued by the manufacturer (LEGO®) and are no longer produced. Stock is thus very limited and seldom available in retail stores after retirement. The longer a set has been retired, the more difficult it is to find, even in the secondary market.
Rare sets often had a limited release or was not available for purchase at all (promotional sets). They are only available in the secondary market.
